SPIRIT Week has officially returned to the College. "The tradition [of SPIRIT Week] had been dying down. There used to be some events before Homecoming, but now we have combined these traditions into one week," said Katie Bemis, Representative for the Class of '09 and Chair of the SPIRIT Week Committee.
On Sept. 26 at 7:00 p.m. students were able to attend a satellite viewing of a motivational speaker named Connie Podesta in Miller Forum. The presentation viewed via satellite took place at William Paterson University in Wayne, N.J. It was sponsored by "The National Society of Leadership and Success.
Sept. 19 - Vehicle Violation - A vehicle in the parking lot of Center for the Arts was unregistered with five tickets. The owner was identified and the vehicle was booted. Sept. 19 - Theft - A student reported that her backpack was taken from the library.
This year, the College's Greek organizations are set to embark on a large scale community service project. Throughout the year, each fraternity or sorority will take a weekend to help clean up the streets of Allentown. President Helm specifically asked the Greek community to participate in the "Neighborhood Cleanup Project" this past year and the organizations enthusiastically agreed to participate.
A group of College students joined an estimated crowd of 30,000 protesters on Sept. 17, 2006, at the "Save Darfur Rally," held in New York City's Central Park. Last Sunday marked the date for "Global Day for Darfur," a world-wide effort to show support for Darfur victims and place pressure on governments to stand against the ongoing crimes against humanity taking place in the Western Sudan region.
