Update from President Helm

On Thurs., Feb. 25, the President's Office distributed a letter to the campus to discuss the current state of affairs at the College. President Helm has sent several notices to the campus about the effect of the economy on the College. It should be noted that President Helm has been known to be very good at keeping the community informed of ongoing issues of importance over the past few years.

Haiti carnival a charitable success

On Thurs., Feb. 25, Students Organized to Stand with Haiti transformed Miller Forum into a carnival. SOS Haiti reached out to other clubs on campus for the event, which was held in order to raise money for Haiti through Partners in Health. The event raised around 425 dollars, making it the largest individual fundraiser for SOS Haiti events on campus.

Most people immediately avert their eyes when they see the posters.  One mother of a prospective student muttered, "Well, it is college." Provocative? That is the purpose-to open up communication between men and women and raise awareness for those women who are not heard.

Senators Specter and Casey urge President Obama to investigate allegations against China

From Washington D.C., a bipartisan assembly of senators, including Senators Arlen Specter (D-PA) and Bob Casey (D-PA), urged the Obama administration to investigate allegations that China's currency manipulation is damaging the US paper industry. The case could open the door to a crackdown on currency manipulation.

VA campaign targets student veterans and schools

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) announced a two-month, nationwide advertising campaign to assist student veterans and service members applying for the Post-9/11 GI Bill. "VA, student veterans, and our schools have made significant progress in implementing the GI Bill this spring, but we still have more to do," said Secretary of Veterans Affairs Eric K.

Sestak calls on Senate to include Medicaid extension

Pennsylvania U.S. Senate candidate Congressman Joe Sestak (D-PA) called on Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) today to help Pennsylvania avoid harmful budget cuts and manage their rising health care costs by putting an extension of Medicaid assistance in the Senate jobs bill, warning that states may be forced to cut essential services without it.

Campus Safety Notes

Feb. 22 - Found Property - In the East Hall Quad, there was a report of a found basketball. The item was placed in the lost and found locker. Feb. 22 - Found Property - In Prosser Hall, basement, there was a report of found hockey equipment. The item was brought to Campus Safety and was later picked up by the owner.
