Since Pearson feels that there aren't many options open to freshmen looking to purchase and/or rent entertainment DVDs, he drafted the proposal for this new program. According to Pearson, "The reason I felt so compelled to write this program is that, as a first year student, there weren't a lot of options when it came to purchasing entertainment DVDs. I decided that as a Representative of the Class of 2010, it was my duty to do something about it."
Pearson, himself, plans on donating a majority of the DVDs used to start the program. Other students have shown support and offered to donate DVDs to the program as well. The program is expected to start with a base of 200 DVDs ready to be catalogued for the Lending Library.
Late fees will be incurred when DVDs are not returned in a timely manner. Both membership and late fees will go towards purchasing and adding the top three "New Releases" to the DVD collection every Tuesday.
"I think this is a really great idea, it will cut down on shuttle use and late fees at Blockbuster. I owe Blockbuster and the library money and I can't wait to owe this program money as well," said David Yaron '08.
The DVD Lending Library Proposal has been passed through Student Council. A committee will soon be formed to present the ideas to the Trexler Library Staff, so the DVD Lending Library program can get started in the near future.
"The new Lending Proposal would be a great asset for students to take advantage of. First year students won't have to wait for the shuttle to take them to Blockbuster and students of all years could just walk over to the library to rent a new release," said Barrie Schlesser '10.
