MerDer and the other Grey's couples:
Hopes for the upcoming season

Looking back at last season's premiere of Grey's Anatomy, in my opinion, the actors, storylines, and writing were all tired. George and Izzie were grappling with their affair (gross), Meredith and Derek started having "breakup sex" (what is that?), and Christina was nursing her wounds after Burke's decision to leave (finally). I think the first three months of the series were overplayed, over-dramatic, and unoriginal. Maybe the writer's strike was just what the show needed, for the show came back fresh and rejuvenated and was at its best since the second season.
So, as I brace myself, try and contain my excitement, and prepare for the second annual Grey's Premiere Party, I can't help but contemplate what I think should happen. Shonda Rhimes, creator and writer of Grey's Anatomy, has stated that Meredith and Derek will be together, no more of the cat-and-mouse game that has been the primary storyline of the entire series thus far.
So what does that mean for primetime soap world's most envied and hated character and her much too perfect man? In the most recent promos, Derek is proposing, Rose is telling him she is pregnant with his child, and Meredith is screaming "NO" as he lies unconscious in a hospital bed in the ER.
Sounds to me that this is the type of drama we are in for this season, and maybe it'll be good for us devoted Grey's fanatics. I for one, am ready for good sex scenes between the couple known as MerDer (anybody remember the prom scene?). Alex and Izzie seem to be attending to their unfinished business, and Georgeā¦is on the cusp of doing Lexi? And Callie is making out with Hahn? I don't know. It's clear most people don't watch Grey's for the intense and realistic surgeries (yes, because I have heard that a kid did in fact turn himself into a rock). People watch this primetime soap for what are the essentials of a soap opera: drama, love, and sex. I just certainly hope that's what we get this season.
