Pass the remote

Rewind. I missed that. Pause. Fast forward, we're in the wrong spot. Repeat. Yes. Repeat. Yes, that would be helpful.

Do you know when people ask you, if you had any special power, what would it be and why? Well, I would want to have the powers of a remote. Play, rewind, fast-forward, pause, record, and repeat. Let's think about this. How helpful would it be if we could rewind, look back, take a second to enjoy what is around us, appreciate everything just a little bit more? I know I sometimes need to do a double take. Rewind and then repeat. That's the way to do it.

What about the record button? Now that would be extremely useful too. Rewind to the spot you never want to forget, or that moment you laughed so hard you cried. Record. Now, that's pretty sweet.

How about different channels? Just in the community here at Muhlenberg you could have a channel that brings you a cappella music, or one that gets you to the dining area of your choice. GQ anyone? Or, you could even program in channels by classes and subjects. The options are limitless.

Do you know how much time I would spend recording, rewinding, fast-forwarding, playing? Where would I be in the present? How would I know what I was supposed to be doing if I was never in the right time? That is why we don't have super powers. If I had the ability to do all the things a remote did, I think I'd go crazy.

It is so important to live in the present. Time is precious, and especially in the middle of April, time truly flies. Absorb, and take in all that goes on around you. Become a sponge, if anything, not a remote, and soak in the memories, don't flip through them and watch the stages go by.

As a freshman, ending my first year at college, I have realized how quickly life, specifically college life, can glimmer away before your eyes. How in the heck did my first year of college go by so fast? Well, apparently it's just what happens.  My parents told me it goes by too fast, but like many things, I didn't believe them.

So, that is my note. For those of you who are graduating in a few weeks, I wish you the best of luck, and I am sure that you know exactly what I am trying to say here. Just take it all in, and don't let it slip out from under the cushion.
