Spring Break: Do's and Don'ts
Muhlenberg Weekly Executive Board
Issue date: 3/4/10 Section: Op/Ed
As if you needed the update, only one more day until Spring Break! In honor of the highly-anticipated ten class-free days, our staff has put together a list of a few Do's and Don'ts for the week at home (or in Florida! Or Mexico… or Punta Cana… or Puerto Rico…)
DO, first and foremost, catch up on sleep! If you're lucky enough to be spending your days in the sun, sleep on the beach!
DO remember to wear sunblock. Sunburn in the middle of March is not only ironic, it's painful.
DO spend (at least some of) your time wisely! Deadlines for summer jobs and internships are coming up, and the week off is the perfect time to finish those pesky cover letters and resumes and send them in.
DO you remember all those Spring Break horror stories? As crazy as some may seem, people have gotten seriously injured, or worse, while just trying to have a good time. You're better off taking a few extra precautions and playing it safe.
DO plan a few day or weekend trips if you're staying local. Spring Breaks vary greatly between colleges, so it's the perfect time to visit some friends at other schools for a weekend.
DON'T put off all your coursework until the last weekend. You will regret missing end-of-break festivities if you do!
DON'T drink yourself into oblivion. We've all heard the cliché Spring Break stories, but please be responsible!
DON'T loose your passport, money or any other personal belongings.
DON'T do anything you know you'll regret. (Although keep in mind, any momentary lapse of judgment will someday be a story to look back on and laugh!)
DON'T feel the need to have a Spring Break worthy of MTV. There's a lot to be said for spending break curled up on the couch with your dog or reading a book on the beach. Either way, it's a well-deserved break. Enjoy it!
